Olive Wood Bowl with Batik Inlay
These hand-carved wood bowls look excellent as a nested set, or individually as small serving bowls. Serve anything from sauces to salads, and they also make excellent catch-alls for your jewelry or keys. These bowls are made from African Olive Wood, a quick growing bushy shrub that produces fine grained, extremely hard and dense wood. The batik accents are added with repurposed cow bone that has been batiked using traditional wax pattern making. All patterns are a little bit different, which just adds to their charm! These bowls just get better with age, as additional oiling and usage brings out the natural wood grain more over time.
All wood sourced from Kenya is certified for export from their forestry service, making certain to limit wood poaching and deforestation. We work with carvers in Kibera, Kenya, who hand-carve each piece using a hammer and chisel method.
